Welcome to the German Society for Polar Research

The German Society for Polar Research (DGP) combines scientific expertise with a fascination for polar and high mountain regions. With over 500 members – including researchers, students, and interested laypeople – we promote interdisciplinary exchange and international collaboration. One of our primary goals is to foster young scientific talent by offering targeted funding opportunities, knowledge-sharing platforms, and access to international research networks.

We provide exciting insights into polar and glacial research at our specialist events, the International Polar Conferences and the Polarstunde ("polar hour") seminar series. The journal Polarforschung and seven active working groups serve as platforms for scientific exchange and the development of new research projects.

Experts from various disciplines contribute to our national and international network – open to anyone passionate about polar research. Become part of this vibrant community and help shape the future of polar research!

Learn more about our work – we look forward to welcoming you as a member!
