Recognition and Awards

The German Society for Polar Research recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to polar research and the promotion of scientific exchange. We present the following distinctions:

  • Honorary Membership: Awarded to individuals in recognition of their exceptional dedication and service to the DGP.
  • Karl Weyprecht Medal: Conferred upon scientists for outstanding research achievements in polar sciences. This award honors both groundbreaking discoveries and long-term contributions to polar research, irrespective of career level.
  • Else Wegener Medal: This award acknowledges individuals who have actively fostered dialogue between science and society, particularly in public outreach, knowledge dissemination, and support for early-career researchers.
