Upernavik is a settlement in West Greenland, located at approximately 73° northern latitude. As the twelfth largest town in Greenland, Upernavik has a population of around 1,000 and thus has the status of a small town. Most of the inhabitants live from hunting and fishing.
With the support of the DGP, which covered travel and project costs, Dr Kamilla Oliver worked as an artist in residence at the Upernavik Museum. This enabled an intensive artistic exchange to take place on site. During her stay, she created new works that explore the landscape and Inuit culture of this Arctic region. The results were presented in an exhibition at the Upernavik Museum, and were integrated into the museum's ongoing programme.
The exhibition was opened on 10 October 2025 in the presence of the director of the museum, Edvard Petersen, and the artist (photo: Knud Kristiansen, Upernavik). The artist donated a painting to the museum, depicting a view of Upernavik. The exhibition met with great interest among the local population.
The support of the DGP contributed significantly to promoting artistic and cultural exchange and placing the discussion of Arctic issues in an artistic context.
